Lynchburg College's Elizabeth Perkins (Kents Store, VA/Fluvanna County) was recently named to the NCAA Division III Softball All-American second-team, only the third individual to earn All-American honors in program history.

Perkins, the 2008 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year, was also an all-Atlantic Region first-teamer. The senior third baseman led the conference in batting average (.425), on-base percentage (.561), slugging percentage (.748), and walks (37). She blasted 11 home runs and added 49 RBI and 29 runs.

The Hornets enjoyed a 39-8 record in 2008, winning the ODAC regular-season and tournament titles. LC marched through the seven-team Fayetteville Regional of the NCAA Division III Tournament and advanced to the finals for the first-time ever.

The Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team placed five players on the USILA Men's Lacrosse All-American teams, two second-teamers, two third-teamers, and one honorable mention.

Senior goalie Garrett Curran (Hull, MA/Tabor Academy) was named to the second-team. A four-year starter, he has started every game in his four-year career. This season, he allowed just 100 goals for a 6.35 goals against average and recorded 171 saves for a 63.1 save percentage. He also scooped up a team-high 90 ground balls. Joining Curran on the second team is senior Midfielder Ryan Cranston (West Chester, PA/Henderson). Cranston played in all 19 games and contributed with 36 goals and 19 assists for 55 points along with six game-winning goals.

Senior attack Stephen Weis (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers) and senior defender Chris Perzinski (Freeland, MD/Hereford) were honored on the third-team while senior midfielder Johnny Black (Timonium, MD/St. Paul's) was named to the honorable mention squad. Weis started all 19 games, leading the team in points (58) and has also tallied 41 goals and 17 assists. Perzinski has played in all 19 games and started 17 contests, scooping up 27 groundballs while defending the opponent's top offensive threat. Black is fourth on the team in goals with 30 and dished out six assists for 36 points this season in 19 games.

Seniors Scott Decker (Clifton, VA/Robinson) and Travis Wray (Newburg, MD/La Plata) earned All-American honors at the 2008 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Decker took third overall out of 16 participants in the pole vault. He cleared 16'3.25", his best mark of the season. Wray finished eighth in the finals of the 1,500 meters in 3:52.37.

Junior right-hander Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) continued to rack up the post-season awards Wednesday, as he was recently named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-American second-team. Devlin helped LC to its most wins in school history, as the Hornets finished with 32 victories and a NCAA South Regional berth. Devlin posted a 9-0 record this season, while sporting a 1.04 earned run average and a .232 batting average against.

Devlin was named the 2008 Lynchburg College Male Athlete of the Year as voted on by The College's coaches. He also has earned All-South Region first-team accolades to go with second-team All-ODAC honors in 2008. Devlin becomes the fifth All-American during Head Coach Percy Abell's tenure at LC, and the first since 2005. Devlin will lead a strong pitching contingent into next season, as the Hornets graduated no seniors after finishing with their best team ERA over the last six years.
