Scott Decker 1 08

Lynchburg College pole vaulter Scott Decker '08 (Clifton, VA/Robinson) was recently named the co-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

A Westover Honors graduate, Decker had already been named the 2008 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. He was a management major and  the recipient of the John O. Hayden Service Award, given in recognition of significant service to College and community. He also received the Carey Brewer Outstanding Management Award.

Former Hornet Andy Rollins earned the men's Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Year award last spring, and like Decker, competed in the pole vault. Decker shares the men's award with Bridgewater College's Melvin Queen.

Decker earned All-American honors last month at the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Nationals, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He took third place in the pole vault, clearing 16 feet, 3¼ inches to capture All-American accolades for the first time in his career.

Decker won the pole vault competition at the ODAC Indoor Championships and also won the event in outdoor competition. Decker has received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Award four times, having earned the honor in a vote of the ODAC's sports information directors for indoor and outdoor track each of the past two academic years. He was also recently named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District First Team, making him eligible for Academic All-American honors.
